WHAT IS ENDODONTIC THERAPY?

Root canal therapy is a treatment that requires the dentist to access the inner portion of the natural tooth to remove the dental pulp and then clean and seal the area. THE PROCEDURE EXPLAINED

During root canal therapy, the dentist numbs the area and offers sedation. A very small hole is made into the tooth which the dentist uses to remove the dental pulp. He cleans the inner portion of the tooth, and the canals, and then disinfects them. Using gutta percha, he fills the inner tooth area, and then uses composite resin to seal the hole. In many instances, patients may also require the placement of a dental crown over the top of the tooth, as the tooth can become weak and brittle and may require an extra layer of strength.
