WHAT IS A “ROOT CANAL?”

A root canal, which is medically known as “root canal therapy,” is an endodontic treatment that is performed to save a tooth that is broken, infected, or diseased. THE PROCESS OF ROOT CANAL THERAPY

During root canal therapy, an endodontics dentist will access the inner portion of the tooth through a very small opening created with specialty tools. Through this opening, the dentist will remove the dental pulp, the mass of tissues inside the tooth, and disinfect the inner canals. Then the tooth is sealed off and many times, a dental crown is placed over it to give it an extra layer of protection against further damage. This is a routine, effective procedure to save teeth that would otherwise be extracted.
