Endodontics

Endodontics

Endodontics is a specialized area of dentistry focused on diagnosing and treating problems involving the dental pulp and tissues surrounding a tooth’s roots. The dental pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When it becomes inflamed or infected, we provide endodontic care to relieve discomfort, remove infection, and help preserve the natural tooth.

When Is Endodontic Care Needed?

The pulp inside a tooth can become damaged by deep decay, repeated dental procedures, cracks, chips, or trauma. Bacteria may then enter the tooth and cause inflammation or infection. Without timely care, the problem can progress and affect the bone and tissues surrounding the root.

We may recommend an endodontic evaluation if you experience:

  • Persistent or severe tooth pain

  • Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers

  • Pain when chewing or biting

  • Swelling or tenderness near a tooth

  • A pimple-like bump on the gums

  •  Tooth discoloration following an injury

  •  A cracked, chipped, or deeply decayed tooth

Some infected teeth cause few noticeable symptoms. During routine dental exams, we use X-rays and other diagnostic tools to identify concerns that may not be visible or painful yet.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is one of the most common endodontic procedures we provide. During treatment, we create a small opening in the tooth, remove the inflamed or infected pulp, and carefully clean and shape the root canals. We then fill and seal the canals to help prevent bacteria from returning

Modern techniques, digital imaging, and local anesthesia allow us to make root canal treatment more comfortable and efficient. Most patients experience significant relief from the pressure and discomfort caused by an infected tooth.

Restoring the Tooth After Treatment

After root canal therapy, we typically restore the tooth with a permanent filling or dental crown. A crown is often recommended for a back tooth because it helps protect the remaining structure from fractures. A filling may be appropriate for certain front teeth or teeth with minimal structural damage. Completing the recommended restoration helps strengthen the tooth, restore normal function, and support long-term results

Benefits of Preserving Your Natural Tooth

Whenever possible, we work to save the natural tooth. Preserving a tooth helps maintain comfortable chewing, supports the surrounding teeth, and protects the natural appearance of the smile. With proper restoration, daily oral hygiene, and routine dental visits, an endodontically treated tooth can continue functioning for many years.
